Growing the Middle
Through strategic community organization, Northwestern Michigan College and Northwest Michigan Works! leads a 10-county collaborative effort to cultivate a flourishing and skilled workforce.
The goal is to increase the percentage of people with a credential or degree to 60% by 2030.
Our approach includes a Student Navigator to help guide students, an Industry Navigator to create employee training and a Community Coordinator to strengthen community partnerships.

This initiative will expand the middle class, provide families with opportunities to thrive rather than merely survive, and drive economic growth and stability across the region.
Student Resources
Life doesn’t follow a straight, narrow path. If you’re curious about ways to earn more or pivot to a new career without the intimidation or expectation of a full-fledged degree, contact your dedicated Student Navigator.

Industry Partnerships
Community sits at the heart of the grant’s goal. The 10-county region has a number of resources that already help a lot of folks, yet they are positioned to do more. From custom training to upskilling to company retreats, let’s connect to keep talent in Michigan.
Community Resources
The Northern Michigan Attainment Collaborative (NOMIAC) brings together educators, employers, local governments, and community partners to expand opportunities and strengthen our workforce. There’s plenty of room to get involved and help shape the future of Northern Michigan’s workforce.
